“The details are not the details. They make the design.” - Charles Eames
The Sydney Opera house is one of the most iconic roof designs in the world. An architectural treasure, but a roofing nightmare. Roof designs can be fun! Roofing, not so much. “An Eye on the Details” addresses four common conditions that routinely provide installation issues during construction.
This course provides visual examples of actual field conditions. Some good, some not so good; along with design suggestions that can cut installation cost and reduce construction change orders. Upon completion of this course, you will have a better understanding of the requirements the roofing contractor must meet to provide the specified roof system warranty, and long term performance and value to the owner.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the importance of water flow on the roof and how it effects system sustainability; causing minor issues to manifest into serious
performance limitations.
2. Realize the importance in creating space between roof top
projections, and investigate basic design guidelines.
3. Requirements for flashing heights at various conditions often encountered
on the roof.
4. Basic roof edge design and the effect of under designing.
